Road trips I would be interested in would be: 1) West Coast - Pacific Highway starting in the North and making my way down to San Diego. 2) Southeast - Starting in Savannah down into Florida across I-10 all the way to New Orleans (raw oysters at night and beignets for breakfast) 3) Florida down to The Keys 4) Northeast- Rhode Island up to Maine living on lobster! I just got invited to a "lobster" match in Maine. I'm debating going as i would need to take a day off work. Also the fridgeaire may want to tag along. That sounds like fun, you should go if it's something you would enjoy!!

It's an underground match. Don't tell anyone. Sometimes I forget that not everyone understands my half expressed thoughts. Sorry. It is a precision pistol match with lobsters as the prizes. If you don't win one you can buy one with the proceeds going to the state Jr's program.

I love road trips, 2 or 4 wheels. There is heaps of Australia I haven't seen yet. I would like to tour the US again at some point. I have travelled in Europe a lot but would like to take my son around when he is a bit older. I would like to do Cairo to Cape Town on a motorbike. (And India. And the Himalayas. And the Stans, Mongolia, Central America, Alaska...) The world is such a big place and there is so much to see! And travelling with a lover is obviously on the bucket list, but going on your own is pretty cool too if you are willing to talk to people as you go and maybe stay in places and do things where you are more likely to meet people. I agree with petrushka that staying in motels can get quite isolating after a while.

In all the world to go and choose from, you choose to recount a realistic bad road trip you had? Who do you think you are @roch649 ? Where are the optimists on this forum? Let's take over at least some of the threads on here! Sorry Bob - that was my one and only holiday in ..... 34 years. Nothing to do with pessimism, when you own 750 acres and livestock, you don't usually get to go away. Which, inicidentally, doesn't mean that I didn't find lots of time to relax at home, or with my friends. You just can't take off for more than 3 days at a time. My roadtrip was much anticipated (the highpoint, apart from the touristy things, was visiting with Bazz and Ms Enna) after I had to retire and turn in to 'landed gentry' (in other words I no longer worked, I leased the place out and had unlimited time off). I had one other holiday since, which was visiting with friends in Wellington, and that was lots of fun. But it wasn't a roadtrip in that sense, because while we drove 2000km, we went from friend to friend. Suits me much better ... I'm more of a people person than a tramping or sightseeing person. My apologies Petrushka. I take it you are a Kiwi? Had several friends from there and they were the best people. Never visited but it would be at the top of my list of countries to see.

This is before you. The open road. Where would you go? Who would you bring? Would you go back home? Just asking. (Side note: This is the crap I think about when I can't sleep) If we're talking road trip only, then a backpacking/motorcycle trip through the European countryside or RVing to the West Coast (wine country). If we're talking about getting away from it all, then a clothing optional, secluded cabin on a lake, with all the amenities and none of the creepy "dueling banjos" crap. Or NYC. NYC is always a destination for me.

As for me, the list is long and all over the place but has to include nice views, good weather, potential for outdoor activities, and places to go dancing. And there might be a certain somebody I'd like to join me, especially if it's going to turn into a road trip adventure.

I can't even imagine a road trip right now because just the couple hours from here to L.A. or the coast are basically a nightmare with my combination of small car and small children, but when they're a little older I want to take them on some of my favorite trips. Up PCH to Monterey, to Yosemite, to the Grand Canyon and stretches of Rte 66 (this is where I'm glad my brother was crazy enough to relocate from San Diego to Flagstaff), and to other cool places in CA and the surrounding states (some of which I've never seen, despite the fact that I've lived in SoCal my whole life). When they're grown, I fully intend to be a nomad for a while. There are so many places I want to see and haven't, and I totally regret not traveling more back when I was single and childless. Some of my fondest memories of my teens/early 20s involve a friend or two and late night, last minute trips (typically to the coast), hanging out with the bums in parking lots along the way, and occasionally getting lost on rural roads.

One of my favorite things to do is try to get lost on back roads.

Include The Great White Way, and we can have a sit down to discus...
