I'm going to need patience and all the positive energy possible. I just invited my ex to stay here with the kids and I during the storm. I just felt like it was the right thing to do especially for the kids. They are young and do not need to worry about their father being alone during a storm. I saw that my daughter was a little anxious about the situation. I'm further West from the coast then him so I'm a little safer. I'm sure when this is all said and done I will once again be reminded about what a difficult man he is to be around. Wish me luck! You are a giver and he is a taker. So long as you are giving "this favor" without expectation of anything back, I hope he isn't a total ass (is all) and that you two get along well enough until it's safe for him to go - and that he graciously says, Thanks. And goes back. You do my heart so much good, bballgirl. You are a great mother and wonderful human being. I am still trying to work up to making amends to my Ex. (part of my 12-steps) I don't feel ready, but the readiness is building. I only have this one left to do, from my original list. It is hardest to be kind to a person who hurt me so much. It is easiest to be forgiving of him/us from a distance but not so face-to-face. I am working on it. This is partly why your post is so touching to me. I'm not sure I would let mine stay (or visit) - - but I don't have the "for my kids" angle either - anyway, thank you for being you. And good luck! GG - thank you for the kind words. All is good here. I'm hoping he can go home tonight. Yes I'm a giver and I expect nothing in return. It was totally the kids angle, I did it for them so that they would not worry about him being alone especially my daughter - she really loves her dad. Give yourself time to accomplish that last step in regards to your ex. You have to have the record for quickest exit after finding EP. It was amazing how quickly you figured things out for yourself and got the divorce. So you didn't have as much time to grieve the marriage as I did. I was on EP for years silently just reading and lurking and eventually participating which also helped me figure things out. One of the premises that has helped me to find some peace with him is the fact that he is just a neglectful person by nature, its inherent in him. He neglects even himself so I decided to not take his neglect personally. Have I forgiven him for his gambling addiction, choosing porn and God only knows what over me? No I don't forgive him. I don't have to forgive him. He made poor choices and eventually paid the consequences for those choices. I guess I'm at a point that I don't care anymore. To me forgiving is me saying it's ok and I can't do that. He has to own that. Does he? I have no idea and I don't care anymore. For me I think it's more about justice than forgiveness. So now I get comfort knowing he has to cook his own meals, buy his groceries, write his bills, take care of the kids when they are with him. He can see that I don't care and I'm doing just fine so that has to count for something. So give yourself time to find peace with it. It may take a few months or a few years. The best part is you are free! Hugs xoxo

The beeches sustained very minimal damage. Maybe a three foot drop. Not even reaching the sea grass before you reach the sea grapes ( larger tree like foliage) Fran and Floyd and Gene washed away sand, leaving a 12 ft. Drop at the sea grapes exposing their roots! Very little sea weed on shore ,and the water is not dirty sandy brown, like in the past.
Our subdivision has 250 houses, that's about 600 oaks lining the streets. One snapped in half, 2 landed in the street, one fell towards a house,( missing it completely). Less than 1%!!!
My neighborhood is big on 6 ft Woden privacy fences. You leave them up for 15 to 20 years on beachside, off course they have rotted. The most they did is fall over and lay there.
Lots of sign and canopy damage in town, only one light pole down. ( other stop lights that swing on wires are all in place, functioning, right at the ocean)
If anything I will be skeptical of the next, " life threatening, major storm".
Old rotted fences, pool screens( barely) ,branches, and downspouts. Nothing to see here folks! Great surfing waves, tomorrow may be more to my liking. I'll be busy raking leaves, and helping others!

Glad to hear you're ok! So, um, we're gonna need to hear more about these surfing waves, and maybe see some photographic evidence. What kind of swells are we talking about? What kinds of periods? How's the curl? How much do you think the bottom profile was changed, and how do you think it's affecting directions of waves or the quality of the surf? Priorities, man!

It's been raining and windy in coastal VA. Not hurricane force, but enough to blow down some big tree branches. (I live in an apartment, but there are a lot of trees in the grounds.) My power faltered a couple of times, but never totally went out.
I want to get out today - I hope I don't encounter flooding or deep standing water anywhere.

Hope all in the Carolinas and Virginia are doing okay. ❤️ Power is out in my area until possibly the end of the week- went down Saturday when a tree took out our distribution bus and maybe service transformer. And of course, this is the week the wife is out of town that I was so excited about...

If it weren't for the dogs and cat, I'd already be doing that.
