I am reading Neil Gaiman's book of short stories "Trigger Warning". In one of the stories a young woman releases a genie while polishing an old lamp. He calls her "toots" and gives her his pitch about the three wishes. She respectfully declines and asks him to not call her "Toots" but by her name. She offers him tea and treats him as a guest. He is perplexed as she continues to refuse the three wishes. He moves into the spare bedroom and becomes a part of her life. When she needs something of him, she asks for it, but none of these requests are wishes. He eventually moves to share her bed. She never uses the three wishes, she has everything she needs.
Would you take the wishes or the lover?
If the wishes, what would you wish for?

I would take the lover. People before things! Agree. I have what I need. Although I might use one or two to spoil my parents; they deserve to be pampered now that they are retired |

I'd wish for more wishes! Nope. Against the rules. You loose all the wishes of you do that. |
