After hearing from a number of you complain about the cold and mentioning you would like to visit, may I suggest an ILIASM weekend sometime in late winter or early spring? We can make it somewhere in the Central Florida area. If you wish, I can research some local hotels to see if I can get a group rate. We can call it the ILIASM Inaugural Conference of Truro-scatatology so it sounds work-related. That way, if your spouse wants to tag along, just tell him or her that it's going to be a boring conference.
Now, I am in the Orlando area, which has a lot to do around here. However, it does not have any beaches, although there are some very nice beaches a short drive away. If you want a beach, there are plenty of other towns, such as St. Pete, Clearwater, Sarasota, St. Augustine, and Cocoa. Each has there own charms. There is also Daytona, but I would not recommend that at that time of the year unless you like NASCAR, bikers, or drunk college kids.
Some of you may want to go to Miami, Fort Lauderdale, or some other place in South Florida. They are all nice, but they are about 500 miles away from me. I don't have the business contacts down there, and I don't know any law enforcement should you get yourself into trouble. Miami also requires some bilingual skills, but the Cuban food is amazing!
While March is pretty much high season here, there is a lot going on at that time. There are sports like baseball spring training, PGA golf, art shows, and some nice concerts at various places. Here in Orlando, we also have Disney (which is not just for kids) and Universal (Harry Potter and Spider-Man). Over in Cocoa, we have rockets going into space, so you might catch a launch. Florida's Gulf coast has some wonderful beaches and is more geared for adults. It is much more tranquil. However, the average age of those communities is around 65 or so in the winter.
If enough people are interested, I can see about a group rate at a resort for our "conference" and maybe a few nearby watering holes. I realize it is short notice, but we are due to meet in real life sometime. Post what you like to do in Florida, and I can see if I can make it happen.
