OK, get this. I accepted an offer for a new job. Well, I had had a total of 5 interviews (for good jobs, too - not temp or contract jobs.)
After I had accepted the offer, two of the other places that interviewed me wanted me to come back for another interview. Seriously.
Either the job market is more favorable to job seekers now than it has been in years - or else my instincts were right, the place where I now live has better job opportunities for me than the place where I used to live with Mr. Kat.

I'm pleased you found work quickly, and that there are opportunities!
Market not as favourable where I live. Province I'm in has been hit hard due to low oil prices. I'm looking for work, but not getting a single interview. :-(. Back in the day, I always got the interview, which usually meant the offer too. I'm beginning to feel a bit badly; I have an HR background and thought I knew how to b successful in my attempts, but... meh, maybe I'm not up on current job seeking strategies.

Sending good thoughts your way. It's NOT you. You said it yourself - your locality has had some problems lately. If you're interested in job hunting strategies, there is a load of information online. PM me if I can help in any way.

The US is very segmented these days. The regions where the economy is good are booming, and the places where it isn't good are dismal.
I live in a dismal area. Tough to keep a business running. Last one out has to turn the light off.

I think it's a combination of change of venue, more opportunities and YOU, @smartkat being open, and in a better mental place to present yourself and NOT settle for less than you deserve. I'm thrilled for you!

I'm thrilled for you! Ditto this . Plus with a bit of luck you might just find the same dynamic applies to dating.

meh, maybe I'm not up on current job seeking strategies. These days, job search strategy amounts to succeeding in the keyword matching game in a "recruiter's" database. Then trying to stand out in a stack of 20 candidates given to a hiring manager. You really have to know somebody to end-run the process; recruiters have become low-quality search engines that do virtually zero applicant screening, and hiring managers detest the quality of candidates being presented. In my field we are being overrun by foreign workers because the process is so broken that hiring managers have come to believe there are no qualified candidates, when qualified people are out of work.
