Today is like a calm before the storm. It's a sunny humid day with a little rain this morning, sort of like a sun shower. I always say when it rains and it's sunny that the Devil is beating his wife. I even saw a rainbow this morning. Anyway everyone is kind and courteous here in Florida and taking this seriously as we should. I can't worry about things that are out of my control so I will just prepare the best that I can and hope for the best.

Here's hoping that the worst of it stays in the water and not on land. Be safe and keep us posted when (if) you can. Today is like a calm before the storm. It recently shifted West which is a little better for the East Coast. Originally Central Florida was going to get a level 4 storm but now it's it's a level 2. The size of the storm is a huge factor. No matter what Florida is fucked especially South Florida. We will get through this though, Florida is tough and resilient.

No matter what Florida is fucked especially South Florida. We will get through this though, Florida is tough and resilient. It's really hard to tell until Sat. morning, when Irma takes it's Northerly turn. Then it can pivot, or turn a little more east or west. Just the slightest wobble during the turn will make a difference. For those of you who aren't used to huricanes, a level 2 is calls for a hurricane party. We get thunder storms with stronger wind gusts than a level 2! Miami and southern Fl.would get hit with a 4 either way. Better for the rest of the state and our Northern neighbors if it travels up land instead of in the Atlantic. Either way I'm staying on the island. The wife , grandpa and the teens just left. They are going to Kissimmee. About one hour west of us. It could easily be worse in Kissimmee. Try even speaking with the "controller" about her decisions. Another example of when I have my house, and my say. Even Grandpa said it was foolish to leave and was with me, he'd just as well stay, like many of our neighbors are doing. I'm going to burn some bamboo tonight in the fire pit, swim in the pool, and get a few pics of the Atlantic before closing up Sunday for the storm. My rentals are bordered up, and my tenants are already gone.

The worst has passed my area, although Jose is lurking. Good luck up there. I was wrong. Cat 4 Jose is going to hit tonight/tomorrow.

The news claims that more than 1/4 of Florida is under mandatory evacuation, and that 5.6 million people are fleeing Florida.
I have to think the media and government has scared the hell out of Florida with these "projected path" forcasts going back and forth over the whole state!!
Never let a good crisis go to waste!

Sorry, had to delete my post. Didn't want my personal pic to be in an open forum. I have to be careful.

I am a Floridian too. I happen to have gone on vacation to Mexico before it was realized irma would be a problem. Originally, my area of florida was not expected to be endangered. Now it is. At best, I expect to return to no power and no food since before leaving, we'd cleaned our our fridge. Stores shelves are empty throughout the state. Now, we hope to still have a house.
My older son lives in Tampa, which expects a heavy hit. He evacuated a few days ago to Georgia with his girlfriend and they now are headed to the middle of Georgia in their 12 year old car.
Still, we are all lucky. I was lucky to have the means and vacation time to extend my time in Mexico, which is far cheaper than if we'd evacuated to some place in the states. Older son was lucky to have the means to leave. We hope he doesn't lose everything.
But this is harrowing especially knowing Jose may follow.

Irma keeps ticking a little more to the west, so we here on the East coast are having mild steady winds right now. Tomorrow and tomorrow night is the big day. Fortunately on the barrier islands where I live there's not a flood issue. The waters run back into the Indian River (Inter Coastal Waterway) or into the Atlantic.
Hurricane Mathew knocked 100's of truck loads of branches and limbs off the thousands of huge oak trees in our neighborhood. It had been 12 yrs since the last hurricane. Hopefully this one won't need as much clean up. Either way I get to help my neighbors.

We just had a Tornado pass through Indialantic. Fortunately it was only on radar. (a radar indicated tornado) A potential funnel cloud from a small circulating band from a pocket cell that passed by us. Funnel clouds tend to fall apart very quickly when they hit land. I'm sitting in the bedroom looking out over our pool, it was a nothing. Stronger gusts come from thunderstorms or passing rain bands. However this will continue on through the day or night. Mathew was a night full of howling winds, nothing like that so far. Winds are projected to only reach 55mph, as Irma has moved to our West coast.

So many tornado warnings!! Our county has 70 miles of coast. There's rotations in the Atlantic ,6 at a time! along with two on the main land. It's going to be a long, noisy night!! These are from the outer bands of Irma a lot more to go! Very different from most Hurricanes.
