This is what I did today. Red flag - well, I didn't go in the water.

Damn, that looks miserable. It wasn't actually raining. That's good enough for me!

I went to the beach yesterday. Weather was sunnier in New Smyrna Beach than in Virginia, but the winds from the storms offshore kicked up the surf to dangerous levels. The lifeguards posted riptide warnings and kept everyone close to shore. Both Daytona Beach and New Smyrna Beach allow driving and parking on the beach. The sand is packed hard, so cars can drive safely. The first Daytona 500 races were actually on the beach. But with high tide and rough surf, the lifeguards closed off beach parking. One person parked his or her SUV on the beach at low tide before parking was closed. The SUV was left there outside of a beachside bar as the tide rose. Everyone in the bar was taking pictures and wondering whose car it was. One lady walked out to the car as if it was hers, bringing cheers from the entire bar. But it wasn't her car - she pranked the entire bar. My son and I had burgers at the bar (actual cheeseburger in paradise!) then left before someone claimed the car.
