I have such mixed feelings about this song. If you know me well, you know I'm an outspoken feminist. I don't write a lot about it here because of the 'no politics' BS. But women need to work twice as hard to get half as far, and in 2017, we're still making 77 cents to every male dollar. We also need our own identity, which is why I refuse to be addressed as Mrs. (Husband's first name) (Our last name.) However, having a connection with a man I love and supporting him is what love is all about. And country music sucks. You're absolutely right to call me out on my venting. I want you to rise above your shitty boss and become his boss or even better, his client or his toughest competitor. It's just that I'm still bitter about my personal situation. I happily switched to part time after I got my license so I could herd the kids while W went and got hers in half the time. And she is a ROCK STAR handling one of the biggest architectural clients in the southeast and making millions for her firm. I will always be proud of her in this respect. The problem is she just doesn't give a fuck. about me. So I admire and embrace your brand of feminism, @andie and I would like to sang you a different type of song. Oh and @andie , what happens in Memphis stays in Memphis. (Especially the part about "5 minutes time.") ;-) I have very fond memories of this song that have nothing to with feminism.

OK feminists: you and my W can hate this song all you want. I've actually discussed this song w/ W. Yes she hates it and she told me I should be offended by it as well. Somehow, having "something warm to come to when nights are cold and lonely" doesn't offend me. 'Cause I'm a chauvinistic pig, I guess. Tammy, if only I were born 30 years earlier... I'll spare you the arguments regarding the 77 cents on the dollar statistic, other than to say there are reasons for it and the fact that there are Democrats in office who's staffs have similar pay ratios backs this up. When we did sound checks, we'd screw around playing a song while, every four bars, our drummer would scream out another style, "reggae...country...death metal...polka..." We can play that song in any style you like.

I think these may be in reverse order of importance. BTW, Aretha just covered this song. It was written and recorded first by the late, great Otis Redding.

Yeah..... I won't (I'm not dubbed a 'curmudgeon' for nothing.) Christine Hoff Sommers does a good job disposing of the 77cent Myth.
