You did the right thing and good for you!
I love it when a man holds the door for me. I can smile at him, tell him thank you, it feels like a little flirt especially if he smiles back.

Ive only recently become accustomed to men who hold open doors for me. What can I say? I was in an SM for too long.

Holding the door is just common sense. Hell I even hold it for the next guy. Now I am trying to teach the grandkids to hold the door.
Wasn't there a meme about "I love when a man holds the door for me and smacks my ass as I walk past."

I hold the door to let ladies can go ahead and then enjoy the view from the rear. 😀

I'm with jim44444,...I hold the door for just about everybody. Over the last few years I have noticed that women are less likely than men to say "Thank you". I would say generally only about 1/2 of the women acknowledge the act of curtesy, whereas almost all men do so.

I’m with jim44444 and worksforme2....holding the door for the person coming behind you is just basic good manners. I know in the old days it was a big deal for a man to do that for women, but now I think of it as just the polite thing for any person to do for another person.

Well that was socially awkward on her part. (both stories, actually). There is a man who works next door who always seems to be at the door as I am walking through and it does get embarrassing, but he will go out of his way to ensure he grabs the door for me. I smile and say thanks. When I am in the position, I do it for others, too. Some women (I am sorry, women, it's true) have serious chips on their shoulders when it comes to this stuff.

You did the right thing. Sometimes I open a door for myself even though another person has opened the door on the other side. This happens because I already was headed for one door or I was too distracted to change slightly my direction. I don't deliberately ignore a door opened by another.
I also open doors for others. Sometimes they say thanks. Sometimes they walk through another door. No biggie.
What is a biggie is if I'm carrying something in both hands and someone lets a door slam in my face. Long ago this happened when I was carrying my baby and the door slammed on my baby's head. My child started crying and the person just kept stepping.
