I got a decent tax refund this year, and I’m spending part of it on a bicycle.
I need more exercise. I loved bike riding as a kid. What the hell? It was fun 35 years ago....
I started working out again a couple of weeks ago, in the hopes that that will help. I’ve got the helmet, the rack for the car, etc.
I made on payment on the bike last week. With luck, tomorrow should be the day I pay the rest and take it home.

From experience: While it will likely feel good to have the wind in your hair and your legs pumping (once you quickly get back into the swing of it), go for a shorter bike ride the first time than you feel you want to. I learned that one the hard way and could barely walk for the next couple days :-)
Have fun!!

That’s great, Kat. I love riding my bicycle, and ride most days of the week when the weather is warmer. Wish we lived closer, and we could ride the trails together. Happy cycling! You will love it.

Alright Kat. I think you will enjoy riding. In your area you can ride most of the year. I agree with choosinghappy start out easy and work up. And ask the bike shop to adjust the bike to you. They can watch you ride a little and set the seat and handle bars to match your frame. I envy you. It snowed all day today so the local trails are crap again.

Have fun!! I love biking.... the peddle version works too. Post a pic? I like that you can see such pretty things, more than walking. Enjoy!!

Today was the day. And I took choosinghappy’s advice - I rode one complete circuit of all the streets in my apartment complex. I also had bought a pair of bike-riding pants with padding in a strategic place! I’m no Girl Scout, but I try to always be prepared, ha ha. I only fell down once, and I have my first scraped knee in decades. Makes me feel about 10 years old. But I am proof that the cliche is true: you never forget how to ride a bike!

Hurray for padded bike shorts. They are a great invention.

Hurray for padded bike shorts. They are a great invention. Especially for guys, they keep things tucked up nice and tight and out of the way.

Just stay in the apartment complex, or a park, until you can stay on the bike. No main roads with traffic. It won’t take long to get used to it, and make sure the seat is set right for your height. I was riding my bike for years with the seat too low (no wonder it was killing my quads going up hill) until a handsome man pointed it out, and offered to adjust it for me. 🤗

Their knees splay outward and the legs are no where near extended. Yes it may be easier on the butt however it is hell on the legs. Btw @smartkat and Caris, map my ride is an easy app to track your rides.

Jim, up until this lovely fellow pointed it out to me, and adjusted my seat, I thought my feet should be flat on the ground as I sat on the seat, but apparently that’s not the case. I feel a bit more nervous now stopping, knowing only my toes reach the ground. It doesn’t feel as stable (or I don’t feel as stable), but my legs were hardly extending while pedaling, so all that stress was on my quads. I never noticed cycling flat trails, only as I rode one with a gentle elevation, and my quads were on fire. Thanks for the tip about the app.
