I spoke about the extortion e-mail I got over a week ago. One of my friends got a similar extortion notice through his cell phone messaging. Other people got similar extortion notices. It is the coming thing because some old accounts can be hacked and the passwords were rather common. So I have been changing my passwords and constantly looking for security updates on my Windows Machines.
One thing that pisses me off is every time I up-date Windows, my privacy settings go back to share everything with Microsoft, so I have to reset many things to off or don't share.
With all the re-adjustments, I took an older Windows computer and installed Linux Mint (latest version) with a firewall and several free software packages. All of this is open-source and free.
So far I have Mint on an old slow computer and some of the commands are different than Windows but it is mostly similar to operating most Windows programs. What is different is I have to learn where used non-program functions are and what to change if it is needed. I am totally used to Windows Control Panel, but I haven't fond a similar feature in Mint. OK, OK the "Administrator" icon in Mint has similar features as the "control panel" in Windows.
I suppose more Youtube videos are in order Maybe next is switching to a faster computer I just remove the current hard drive to keep the Windows set-up, install a used hard drive, insert my boot-able USB drive, go into the boot sequence utility, select "boot from USB", and then follow the directions. If I sell or give away a computer I still have the Windows version of the computer for the "Windows" folks.
So far the most difficult and most time consuming thing was learning how to make a boot-able ISO USB drive with Linux Mint on it It took way too many hours and more tries than I care to mention because different systems require different steps and some of the lingo / terms are all new to me. No that I have my boot-able USB drive, it will be easy to convert any future computers.
Why Linux? Because they don't need all of the constant updating and no one spies on you like Microsoft does.
Is anyone else tired of Windows and is anyone into Linux Mint?
All typed on my new Linux operating system computer.
PS it is almost like Windows
PPS For anyone that used DOS 3.2, Mint has a command line called terminal. KOOL.

This video explains how to install Linux Mint 19 but the latest version is 19.2 and is virtually the same process. I have to go back and do some of the steps in the video that I skipped.
Beginner's Guide to Installing Linux Mint 19
My first problem with Mint is the first time I use FireFox everything works fine. If I log out of FireFox and go back for a second use, the monitor gets a waffle like texture pattern and I can't use the computer until I manually turn off the power and re-boot the computer.

I decided to install Linux on a different computer and this time I followed the advice in the above link. This time I did way more up-dating and my computer that I used (different box) is faster and has more memory. I took out the hard drive and used my spare hard drive so I can switch back to Windows anytime I want and everything on my Windows hard drive is still there before I switched hard drives and installed Linux on my spare hard drive.
It is a slow learning curve but hopefully I can get away from Windows.

Appendectomy and some complications kept me in the hospital for a week. More treatments to come.

Medical questions on a form: Does anyone force you to have sex? Answer no. Are you sexual active? Answer NO, and not by choice. Is there someone at home to take care of you? Yes and no, I take care of myself and do things for my W.
My surgery upset several natural body functions. A catheter by a young female RN didn't go well so the Urology department sent over a male PA to finish the job. The next day a young female nursing assistant wanted to inspect and clean the catheter and equipment and related tubing and clean things. OK I got felt up to an extent but I was so shriveled up there wasn't much to work with. A catheter can give a guy an "innie."
It took 4 days to gain minimal bowel function so I had those inspections to deal with. The topic for those 4 and more days was "could I pass gas, could I pee, could I start to feel any signs of bowel activity or normal functional stages.
It was almost like I was "potty-training" myself all over again and that was my main job. Well that and managing any potential infection hazards. IV fluids and antibiotic were plentiful.
I am home and doing OK.

My, you’ve had a fun couple of weeks!
Funny how life’s basic daily functions can quickly become milestones...
Glad you’re doing better, and good to have you back.
And Mint... seems to be quite popular. I don’t run it but know folks who do.

The the reasons for the complications were the appendix was cemented to the intestine so about a foot of intestine had to be removed. The smart way to do that would have been to flush the intestine ahead of time like I was going to have a colonoscopy, but that didn't happen in time so an emergency procedure took place. The surgeon already took a large amount of time doing a laparoscopy procedure that didn't work. I am guessing some poop material spills into the abdomen when a section of intestine is removed and stitched back together. That is why I was on heavy antibiotics for a week.
isthisit, would you edit your post and eliminate using my quote above. In a few days I am going to eliminate most of the medical stuff. I just wanted to let the good folks on ILIASM know what was happening on my end because I was missing for a week.
Is this event going to trigger me wanting to be single? Time will tell.

Handy- you’ve had quite a week! I’m so sorry you had to go through all of it and that you are facing more treatment. Take good care of yourself. What you’ve been through already is bad enough. I hope you feel better soon!

Thank you all for the concerns that you have for me. Other than when I occasionally cough, I am in no pain and not taking any pain meds. I go for short walks and do almost of the food preparation and clean up. It keeps me busy and my mind from borrowing trouble. My W is into TV dinners so I don't take much time on her meals. My W is still glued to her TV programs 16 hrs a day and I have the news paper and my computer to keep me entertained or at least mentally occupied. Time for another 2 block walk.

Handy, I'm sorry about this medical situation. I hope your wife can get off her posterior and help you out a bit. If you want that. It certainly does seem you are doing all the work in your relationship and that's no good.
