I am having a good day. 3 daughters and 5 grandkids are here this evening. Yep, a good day. I had a great day last Sunday. I went walking with a group of great people. We did 12 miles in the Lake District. The autumn colours were glorious reds, yellows, oranges, greens and a lovely blue sky. The air was crisp and chilly but I was wrapped up and it was great to stretch my legs, see the views and breathe in the air. I felt calm and content which sustained me throughout the week. I smile just thinking about it. At the end of the walk was an old, old pub with a great fire and a rather nice shandy with my name on it. When I arrived home tired, wet and muddy my children had bought me flowers and made me some pasta. There are aspects of life I would love to improve for sure, but I have much to be thankful for too. Great question jim44444

?Shandy? ....he made the shandy with beer and lemon-lime soda: a proper shandy... I hope this is correct.
A 12 mile walk? Way to go!!!!!!!

Yes that is right, but that would be a lager shandy with a shot of lime. My shandy was half dark beer and half lemonade so no lime in that. Oh, and of course as beer should be it had been nowhere near a fridge 😜.

Shandy was a working man's drink. If you were working hard and needed a drink but did not want to get tipsy, shandy was the choice. A good day for me is reverting to my youth, a walk around the local lake with no leg pain, listening to the bird life with my hearing aids in and a hot tea in the lakeside cafe afterwards.

Well, us mericans usually make things cold (refrigerate) or put ice in a drink. I know, I know, we mess up things. I watched several YouTube videos about the "strange things mericans do.
The British slang dictionary has several versions of a "shandy" some with only lemon-aid and some with Sprite / 7 Up (4-3 lemon-lime-flavoring)soda. Even the word soda isn't universal here, in some areas a soft drink is called "POP."
For my annual beer or two, I will have to try a "shandy."

Well my US friend I wouldn’t be so rude to agree that you guys mess things up. I think the cold beer/warm beer things simply reflects the fact that you get a lot more nice weather than we enjoy! The requirement for refrigerated drinks is a ‘dear diary’ moment here generally. I have to disagree with your source about the 7up/sprite thing though. It’s a brave barmaid that would pull a pint like that. Oh dear me no. So amongst the definitions did your British slang dictionary cover a ‘hand shandy’? Entirely different thing altogether 😉.

hand shandy AKA a wank. Synonyms: five knuckle shuffle, hand to gland combat, a date with Mrs palm and her 5 lovely daughters, jerk off, spanking the meat, and a number of other names. Then there is the Shandy Wiki definition. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shandy100 British terms www.anglotopia.net/british-identity/humor/top-100-most-beautiful-british-slang-words-and-phrases/
About temperature where I live, once it was -43F and the opposite might have been +112f. Over +100F usually happens several times in the summer time and -25f isn't uncommon in the wintertime. Yes, ice in a drink is kind of nice in the summertime. For the winter 2 pair of pants and glove liners and gloves work along with a hooded sweatshirt and a thick coat is the way to go.

Laughing. On no, never ask for a nice hand shandy in a pub!!!!! Laughing too. I have been asked for a hand shandy in a pub! I politely declined. And, it wasn’t the worst chat up line I have ever endured either.

I prefer my "wanks" to be done by a special lady. OTH a good shag works better.

Back to a "good day."
Today was another medical test day. I just reclined in a comfortable chair, closed my eyes, opened them when instructed, looked at some flashing lights for a few seconds, and did some other things as instructed.
easy-peasy.

isthisit how much grey can you tolerate? By grey, I am assuming you are referring to not sunny during the day. Well days are shorter here so it does affect me. I do believe I have some degree of Seasonal affect disorder (SAD) but sitting by a south facing window and reading the news paper helps a little. I also take a vitamin "D" capsule and going to the gym with friends helps too. Being on the leeward side of a mountain range results in mostly dryer weather so the sun is visible most days, even in the wintertime. Even days down around zero F are not a problem as long as it is sunny and there is no or little wind blowing. Cloudy and windy sucks even when it is warmer. Wind and a strong breezes from the north east also are bone chilling and come with clouds and higher humidity. BRRRRRRR. PS, the Sun always shines so the tern "the Sun is not shining" is incorrect. Another recent interest of mine is what is the Earth's position in the Milkey-way and where and how fast are we going? www.physics-astronomy.com/2017/07/the-milky-way-is-moving-through.html
