They weren’t married (she declined 3 times)... and lived in separate homes.
But a Canadian court decided that his pattern of generosity (e.g., paying off her house) and gifts over 10 years established a precedent. Alimony was initially awarded for life, but reduced to 10 years on appeal.
Apparently, rich dudes need prenup agreements for girlfriends!

Reminds me of the 3 laws of thermodynamics. They are physics laws defined in mathmatics. But a wit described them thus. 1. The game is fixed. 2. You can't win. 3. You can never win!

"If" you are living in this blokes jurisdiction, and "if" your financial situation is exactly the same as this blokes, and "if" all facts pertaining to the matter are identical to you, then this example in the video is relevant to you.
But if you are NOT in that jurisdiction, and if your situation is NOT pretty much exactly the same as yours, then it ain't relevant.
It is best to get your information from a lawyer in YOUR jurisdiction, taking into account what the law is in YOUR jurisdiction.
What the law is in Canada - or Bumfuck Idaho - ain't especially relevant to you and your unique situation.

www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=bumfuck%20idahoBaza, watch it! I thought it might be a town over the state line. Us mountain folks kind of stick together. J/K BTW Bumfuck coffee mugs are being sold on the Interweb with many state names. It must be a popular name for some reason.

Incidently Brother Handy , I saw a story the other day. This USA celebrity (I think it was D. Letterman - but don't hold me to that) had to pay his ex missus $35,000 per month alimony. That's about $420,000 per year. "Wow" - I thought. But in the bigger scheme of things the husband was still earning about $583,000 per month ($7,000,000 per year). So in real terms he was paying her approx 6% of his income. Dunno what jurisdiction this was in*, but it doesn't seem like an exorbitant amount, relatively. *presumably not that place in Idaho !!!!!

Baza, sometimes I think some folks are just crazy. Lots of people earning something more than a living wage in the US and sheer poverty in many undeveloped countries, make these rare alimony payments seem unjust to most poor people. Living on less than $100 a month in some countries and we have people getting $420,000 for once-upon-a-time being in a relationship that ended.
Make me dictator long enough so I can pass some laws that cant be rescinded for 50 years and I will lower medical costs, get rid of corporate welfare, the lobbyists and no going from government service and right into a company that always gets the expensive over priced government contracts.
You don't have those issues in your country, DO YOU?
