I may have found a way out of my situation. In Canada we have a program called spousal refinancing mortgage that allows one spouse to refinance the home at 95% value to buy out the other. www.ontariolend.ca/mortgages/spousal-buyout/My mortgage payments would double but would still be cheaper then renting and I'd be able to stay in the home with my son while he finishes school. When he's done I could then sell and downsize.

When he's done I could then sell and downsize. That sounds like a good idea to be able to keep your home and be there with your son.
