I feel that women are more likely to have platonic male friends than men are to have female friends. I know there are a number of ILIASM males refuting my stereotype, so I wanted to do a poll.

HelenT. Are you looking for personal testimony on that? I could bore you with my " nice guy" testimonies, to all the other moms/women I have done " really nice guy platonic things for". All in the name of service and mercy as a spiritual gift.
PS. Even a rescuer needs rescuing.

I'd say that women are more likely to say they have "Platonic" friendships with men.
But I'd also say that those "Platonic" friendships are more likely to surprisingly turn romantic.
So maybe it's just easier for men to admit they may be harboring romantic intentions for any woman they respect enough to call a friend?

Billy Crystal pretty much nails it...

I am guessing the ratio is the same. For every female with a platonic male friend there is a male with a platonic female friend.

True, does this mean that some men are not able to see women beyond that of a sex object?

B Chrystal has it right. The only woman a man can be friends with is one who holds no appeal to him. And if she holds no appeal for him then he is less likely to want to spend much time in her proximity. So she will be more in the nature of an acquaintance than a friend.
