I haven't worked out since Monday morning and have been eating horribly this week! Damn MBA capstone class and meetings at work have consumed my workout time! I need a fix!!

I spend a lot of time at the YMCA. No, I'm not singing and making those big letters with my arms. I have a couple health issues, mostly age related so it's critical for me to get a lot of exercise in. For me the real benefits pay off in flexibility and being able to do all the outside physical activity I have. And I chop a lot of wood.

RexCorvus , This is a neat and positive thread. It makes me think there may be other things -- beyond exercise and diet we might support one another with. Personally, I had to challenge some of the ideas that I had -- and I see here -- to get out of the ruts I developed as a young man where things worked differently or I was just too unfocused to notice how ineffective or destructive some of my behaviors were. I'll Work Through My Bad Diet: I'm wondering if anyone over 40 can do this? I was watching a YouTube vlog of a guy -- looked to be in his 40s -- videoing his daily, high intensity workouts on his new Bowflex while still eating the stuff he loves and drinking beer. He was getting really frustrated after a year because while he felt better, he pretty much looked the same. I'll Start Small and Not Overdo It: This has never worked for me. If you've tried to ease into a healthy lifestyle for years, I'd recommend a pure Gonzo, if it's worth doing, it's worth overdoing approach. Become a fanatic. Invite the ire of your refuser and any other nay sayers. I recommend -- and practice -- doing anything I want to be part of habitual lifestyle EVERY DAY. Exercise, diet, rules, etc. Consider it. But I Really Like Food and Alcohol: No one likes food and booze more than me. But I found I liked health more. And, I also found that when overdoing Food, I was never really hungry, and just didn't ever really enjoy it. It was boring and trite. "Gosh, it seems I should be enjoying this Prime Rib more than I am!". Personally, after seeing the destruction that alcohol wreaks on folks, I've just quit that. There's just no point in it. I'd recommend considering Intermittent Fasting for anyone wanting to cut body fat while still building strength and endurance. I'm going to do a 4 day fast during Holy Week if someone cares to join me (us). Goals: Consider eliminating the "Weight" goals and focus instead on purely athletic ones. The weight may or may not happen, but achieving purely athletic goals is objectively measurable and obtainable. And you'll love the results more anyway. And folks will notice these results!! Strong, flexible, and healthy is hot no matter the size. For those of you that remember me from EP, you may recall my constant attempts to get my formerly highly athletic wife to exercise. We'll after maybe 10 years, I'm making headway. But the whole dealio is an exercise in contrasts fighting against these items above. And she's failing! She doesn't see it as failure. Yet. But she's getting frustrated. What is it with you former athletes? Things change. Lifestyles don't just happen. Moderation doesn't work. I'm not sure I've ever seen it succeed at anything. Go ahead and be an extremist. You'll enjoy it!

I gained a ton of weight when I was young (eating my feelings after abuse) and joined the wresting team in high school to try and loose weight (too short for anything else). That's where I met my H. I was like 135/140lbs then, which I a lot for a girl who is only 4'10. I got heavier after high school when the SM issue can full spectrum on top of other life issues, got up to 160. It took me three years, but I lost 15 pounds as a goal to allow myself to get pregnant, then after baby came I was down to 130 again within three months (breastfeeding am-i-right). I have a strange issue where it is actually really hard for me to loose (or gain) weight. Since I hit that highest weight I loose one half a pound a week at most, but come Thanksgiving I ate whatever I wanted and gained .2lbs. thankfully I am curvy enough to handle the number, and I can squat almost 200lbs, so at least it's not all jiggle! End stupid weight rant. I chase my toddler and try and do laps while she is in ballet/swimming but tend to loose my focus with the chem book in front of me We did a mommy and me Zumba lesson at home today. I think I burned more calories laughing! Does life ever stop being so damn busy? Keep it up everyone! That endorphin release makes the day and week so much brighter.

Lifted weights today - Back, Triceps, Shoulders Gym etiquette - Don't sit on a piece of equipment talking on the phone and not using it. Additional gym ediquette......use the equipment for its intended purpose. It's not unusual to see(usually younger males) using a piece of equipment for an exercise when other equipment expressly intended for that exercise is open and available. WTH ?

I try to work out as early as possible to derive the longest period of metabolism boost I can get. This morning it's legs, butt, and core. Missed my Saturday workout. My X called in a lot of pain and ask me to take her to the emergency room. Turns out it was a kidney stone, but it took most of the day to get the diagnosis, the initial treatment and pick up the pain prescription. But back to business today.

I was doing good losing and maintaining my weight until the cruise last summer and my knee issues. But pt has made the piston not an issue but I don't have the motivation back yet.

Either I was strong today or gravity was taking some time off. I love it when I can push the heavy stuff up in the air way more than usual. Chest, shoulders and upper back this morning.
