4 election cycles back I choose that option. When Obama and McCaine were the candidates, I choose not to vote for either of them. I voted for senators and congressional candidates, as well as state and local officials, but not those 2 bums. Yes, I seriously considered the drawing a dick option like so many others as the options were bleak. Again. But, in our parliamentary system we do not vote for a PM, unless we happen to live in the constituency of one of the party leaders, we vote for a local MP and mine is amazing. We technically don't vote for our President directly since we have the electoral college system. Which ever candidate gets the most votes in a state gets that state's slate of electors. This is why it's technically possible for a candidate to win the popular vote but not the election and this has happened 3 times in the history of the US; twice in the last 24 years. Also those electors can technically go against the will of the people though this is rare.

We have heard little else on the telly for the last few weeks. 😊 At least the US has the candidates on the ballot paper. Most of Europe has a multi party system so it is unusual for a governing party to get more than half of the popular vote here. But, every system has strengths and limitations so it probably doesn’t matter much.

I see the pros and cons of how we do it here but like other governments, this one has its flaws too. I'll just leave it at that.

Our electoral system works well. The reasons for the electoral college are stronger now than ever. I lived in Illinois for most of my life. The Chicago political system is known as "the machine." Just because they could steal my vote that doesn't mean they should be able to steal votes of those in other states.
There is a lot of corruption in the electoral voting process in the US. Years ago, the NYT had an article opposing mail in voting because it was demonstrably cheatable. I live in Oregon now and the NYT didn't understand half of how cheatable it is. Oregon is not a deep blue state but every election the deep blue shit floats to the top.
One hard truth. If the system is cheatable, and those in charge are not fixing the flaws, then the flaws are features that are working as intended.

Typo. Our electoral college system works well, not our electoral system at large.
